A learning from Life...

Some Golden thoughts
By an Entrepreneur:
Mr. Navjot Singh ( A tea vendor)

During a great opportunity to me by my teacher Mrs. Harpreet Kang I came to know various hidden secrets of success through interaction with the Entrepreneurs who achieved success not inherited to them but by investing many sleepless nights of hard work.

Big success story is not written over night. So, as Mr. Navjot Singh - a tea vendor have his great journey of 27 years of struggle.

During one of my interactions with the various entrepreneurs of Ludhiana I got a chance to capture few learning moments from a tea vendor, Mr. Navjot Singh. I asked him that what according him is success and the most interesting thing was that he defined the word ‘Success’ in the most lively way that ‘Success is Growth’.

As every lock has a unique key same as every unique mind have a respective point of view. The way of perceiving life by Mr. Navjot Singh was something to learn about. He was a car driver in U.P. but somehow he had to leave that job and move to Punjab. Then he started a business of tea vendor. He is an educated man with financial crunches but his trust on himself and his hard work has somehow made him exist in this struggle of existence. He has six lives dependent on him in his home. He has two sons and a daughter, and he is fulfilling their all possible requirements.

His daily investment is about Rs. 250 from where he is able to earn about Rs. 250 to Rs. 300 in a day and about Rs. 5500 to Rs. 6000 per month. By his daily efforts he is still managing to live his life.

His near business plans include financing of an Autorikshaw so as to make a better choice of earning. This man with a great vision and planning has something to learn from. The hard challenges of life were not able to hamper his growth and courage. The objectives of this man were well visible in the shine of his eyes.
The main motto of my concentration on a tea vendor was because more than half of the population of India is struggling for their livelihood and they have much more experiences to be learnt.

Life is not about what you were but what you are and where you see yourself.

But if you die poor, then it’s totally your mistake”

  3. very well written..really liked the ending..quite impressive..
Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. it's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.

  6. Expressed in a lucid and an ingenious manner,it is heart warming that a tea vendor has been recognized as an entrepreneur... Navjot, represents millions of people who were born in a deprived and under-privileged society but after facing all the hardships the world had to offer and importantly overcoming them, they have created a niche for themselves... adversity brings out the best in the valiant and he aptly belongs to that genre... all praises to the editor of the article for giving due credit to such small yet colossal business-men...the quotation in the end is the highlight..well said...

  8. it can be learnt that no work is small in life...it is the thinking of a person which makes a work small or big...Mr Singh is earning his living on his own without depending on others

  11. well while reading d above written lines wch are really commendable i came across few lines wch mah dad told me once ..he said--
""success reachd nd kept by d men like hm,
reachd n kept...wer not attained by sudden flight...
    he while hs companions slept..
wz toiling upwardz in d night..""

Adding to the words of abhishek above i feel that success esnt about just winning the race..itz about handling d worst, gaining experiences frm failures n finishing d race..

mr.navjot singh setz a great example for us..open ur eyes..lok at hm n make remarkable persona of urz..

  12. very nicely written..i really like the last two quotes. I feel that life isnt about finding yourself as alot of people think it is...but its about creating yourself. Do what you think is right and be proud of it..nothing else matters..and you expressed these thoughts very nicely :)

1 shud nt underestimate themselvz n try 2 learn new things..

  18. COMMENDABLE!!!!! nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared to believe that something inside them was superior to circumstance with a zeal over ability,, given themselves to their work, body & soul..
cum wt may even if the fate goes adverse, a soul as he can always strive for happiness & sail against the wind to attain it..

& as well said,, success is to b measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles whch he has overcome while trying to succeed..

hats off to sch great men,,
    who devoid of sudden flights,,
    while their companions slept
were toiling upward in the night..

    ReplyDelete
  22. this is real INDIA....its economy is not run by a handful of millionaires but by millions of Navjot's who widout any help from the government hve been able to sustain their families.....cuddos to them all... its impressive that the experience has been shared nd with a moral; "u make ur own destiny"....

  23. pretty heartning 2 see the resolute nature of the guy.. even in xtreme conditions the guy is planing busineess expansion,,,wow that takes sme heart.... to bring out and share the experience of a person who represents 70percent indians is the best thing about the passage,,,

  24. "do what u can, with what u have...where you are ,just hang in there..." it applies to this guy....but still wonder wat future holds 4 him...wat about his children's studies ? ain't any oppurtunities 4 them...they wud probably have 2 face the same problems as their father... lucky we,way better off.......

  25. HE IS A GOOD ENOUGH EDUCATED MAN YET BEING A VENDOR DOESNt DETER HIM...ALL 4 THE FAMILY...... HE IS A HARDENED FELLOW WHO HAS RISEN ABOVE MANY OBSTACLES... NICELY COMPILED AND THERE EXIST A LESSON 4 ALL IN HERE.......... HARE KRISHNA

  26. The passage is nicely compossed with apt usage of quotes.its a lesson 4 all 'WANNABES'. everybody wants to make hefty sums of money without putting much hard work.wake up people, get out of sweet slumber and realise 'LIFE IS TOUGH'

    ReplyDelete
  27. a cup of tea costs 5 bucks at a max,, the guy 4 sure knows the value of every penny and values it..its nice that he is investing in his children studies nd havent employed them along with himself as generally done... the passage on the whole is expressed in a very synchronised way...good work..

    ReplyDelete
  28. considering a tea vendor as an entrepreneur is a bit generous......apparently he is struggling 2 keep both ends meet,,,he's definately a fighter though...the article is good on the whole bt a deeper analysis on his past failures was required 2....

    ReplyDelete
  29. to hold on to a vendor 4 an article on entrepreneur is quite audacious..!! but they in someway teach u about the hard facts of life, striving 4 every penny....not many oppurtunities 4 them but still fight to see a better future ??? life 4 them is a never ending war, the longer they fight_the longer they survive.........

    ReplyDelete
  30. if one values money, it automatically comes along the way...a cup of tea costs 5 bucks at a max,, the guy 4 sure knows the value of every penny and values it..its nice that he is investing in his children studies nd havent employed them along with himself as generally done.

  31. full filling the requirements of children with earning of just 300 per day is hard to believe...
such should be the determination in order to succeed

  32. really a great learning experience....

  33. firstly i appreciate you to choose a small entrepreneur . from this article it can be learnt that life is full of difficulties but we have to face these difficulties by determination and make our own path by hard work.

  37. Really agreat job in putting forth the ideas of such a man, who is one of the many in our country who have positive approach towards life but are not favoured by life at all stages. The strive to survive and survive in a better way is something which keeps Navjot singh ging ahead. Making ends meet with a meagre income of Rs 6000 and supporting 6 lives by it is difficult, but still Navjot singh doesn't loose hope and plans to add more to his income by other ways. Supporting his three children must be very difficult for him, and if he had lesser number of kids, his burder would have surely been lesser and they could have been taken care in a better way. Having a positive outlook toewards life is good but ,these things too need to be given more importance. Otherwise Navjot singh have proved that he is man of strong will and full of optimism. Best of luck to him for his future..
